Amazon raises frontline pay by up to 5.6% from 27 September. Minimum starting pay becomes £15.10 an hour, £2.39 above the legal minimum, covering Daventry.
Warehouse pay at Amazon’s Daventry operation is going up on Sunday. The company has announced a rise of up to 5.6% for its frontline operations employees across the UK, taking its minimum starting pay to £15.10 an hour from 27 September 2026. (Amazon UK, September 2026)
For a full-time role, that is a minimum starting salary of £31,408 a year. In some locations the hourly minimum rises 5.2% to £16.10, or £33,488 a year; Amazon’s announcement does not say which locations get the higher rate. The rise covers full-time, part-time, temporary and seasonal roles, and the company says it will benefit tens of thousands of frontline employees across the UK.
Amazon has been operating in Daventry for nearly a decade. Its own recruitment site records the Daventry fulfilment centre opening in 2017 with “more than 300 new, permanent jobs for local residents”, its third site in the Midlands, and it continues to hire warehouse roles there.
How it compares
The new floor sits well clear of the legal minimum. The National Living Wage for workers aged 21 and over has been £12.71 an hour since 1 April 2026, so Amazon’s £15.10 is £2.39 above it, about 19% more. (Low Pay Commission announcement, GOV.UK)
By Amazon’s own account, its minimum starting pay has risen by 80p an hour in the past year and by 44% since 2022.
John Boumphrey, Amazon’s UK Country Manager, said: “Our frontline teams are the backbone of our business, and this pay increase reflects that. Starting salaries now exceed £31,000 a year, and we’ll continue investing in our people because they deserve it.”
What it means for you
- If you work in an Amazon warehouse, the new rates apply from Sunday 27 September, to seasonal and temporary staff as well as permanent ones, so autumn seasonal hires start on the new floor.
- If you are job hunting around Daventry, £15.10 an hour becomes the number other warehouse employers at the freight terminal will be measured against.
- From 1 October, Amazon staff also get 10% off eligible groceries and everyday essentials on Amazon.co.uk, on top of a benefits package the company lists as private medical insurance, life insurance and income protection, a pension from day one, and up to £3,000 a year for training under its Career Choice programme.
A pay floor is not an average. The figures above are Amazon’s published starting rates, and what an individual earns depends on role, shift and length of service. For the wider local jobs picture, see our latest Northampton area claimant count.
